Everton have reportedly rejected an £85 million bid from Spanish giants Barcelona for Richarlison. Sky Sports claim that the La Liga side saw their bid instantly rejected – and some Everton fans have had their say on the transfer development.
Brazilian forward Richarlison is the club’s second top goalscorer this season and is crucial to the Toffees side. Carlo Ancelotti will not want to lose such an important asset just days before the end of the transfer window. It would leave his side seriously depleted in an attacking sense, and without time to find a suitable replacement.
However, £85m is an astronomical fee and you can understand why some people feel that it was an offer too good to refuse. The 22-year-old has scored eight goals in 22 Premier League appearances this season and has been a hit at Goodison Park since his move from Watford two years ago.
He moved to the club for a fee potentially rising to £50 million in 2018 (BBC). Despite questions being asked initially over the transfer fee, it now seems that Everton have proved that it was a worthwhile investment. They would have made £35 million profit if the bid was accepted.
Richarlison is an established and regular senior Brazil international and it is important to remember he is just 22-years-old. He has not yet reached his peak and could develop significantly in the coming years. The young forward already has the ability to score all types of goals and there will be a reason behind Barcelona’s bid.
Some Everton fans could not believe the club turned down the bid, whilst others feel he is worth more than the £85 million the Catalan club offered. Here is some of their reaction on Twitter:
People saying we are mad for turning down the Richarlison bid.
First of all, there wasn't a bid.
Second of all, he's worth £120m, at least. #Everton

He's 22, got everything, can only get significantly better and regularly starts for Brazil. In the current market he's worth north of £120M. https://t.co/sV15pjot2n

Why do we need 100m? Our owner is a Billionaire. Also this season our top goal scores are DCL-12 and Richarlison-10, the next highest scorer is on 2, if we sell him where would are goals come from?? He’s too important for us!

I don't know what's more crazy here, Richarlison being worth that much or Everton turning down such an offer ? https://t.co/ZVO02ECRvU
