A number of Everton fans have taken to Twitter to react to the news that the club confirmed on their official website concerning Mason Holgate.

Holgate’s future had become a subject for speculation after an impressive season for the Toffees.

It was reported by the Daily Mirror in February that Manchester City were planning to make a £30 million bid for the defender in the summer.

And it appeared that Everton had to act with the 23-year-old boasting just over two years on his contract at Goodison Park.

But it seems that Everton were already in the process of getting the situation resolved.

The club have confirmed on their official website that he has signed a new five-year deal that will keep him on Merseyside until 2025.

And it is absolutely no surprise that the news has delighted a large number of Everton supporters on social media.

It is almost remarkable to think that Holgate spent the second-half of last season on loan in the Championship. He made just five league appearances in the first-half of the campaign before joining West Brom.

But he is now a key man for Carlo Ancelotti’s side. And it looks to be a real coup for Everton to tie him down with Pep Guardiola reportedly lurking.
