Everton fans react in bemusement following latest Romelu Lukaku contract reports

Everton fans came home from work and school this evening to devastating news – their prized asset and fan-favourite Romelu Lukaku does not want to sign a new contract at the Toffees.

According to the BBC, the 23-year-old Belgian was offered a mammoth £140,000 per week to sign a new five-year deal to stay at Goodison Park, which would have made him the highest paid player in the club’s history.

Alas, it appears that Lukaku is more than happy to let his current deal run out, which it will do in two years time. Whether that means that the striker will leave this summer remains to be seen, but it has certainly caused a stir on social media.

There has been no word thus far from Everton, who have instead chosen to talk about Gareth Barry’s most recent performance against West Bromwich Albion…

…which left some Everton fans quite agitated as the club’s social media account failed to acknowledge the shocking news.
