Everton fans react as Wolves star Diogo Jota claims he loved watching Toffees

Wolverhampton Wanderers star Diogo Jota has told The Guardian that he used to watch Everton as a child, claiming they were “relentless” – and Toffees fans have responded to his comments on Twitter.

Jota, 23, is in stunning form for Wolves this season, having scored 15 goals for the Midlands club and laying on six assists in his 37 appearances. He has caught the headlines in the Europa League especially, scoring six in six.

He has formed a formidable partnership with Raul Jimenez up front and although the Mexican takes the majority of the plaudits as he continues to score goal after goal – Jota’s hard work and creativity brings the best out of Jimenez.

Amid the global health crisis, Jota discussed the sides he watched growing up and the Portugal international surprisingly picked Everton – claiming he “loved” Everton, with David Moyes likely to have been in charge when Jota was watching.

“I loved to watch Everton play, especially when they were playing at home. It was not a club that fought for the title but that always made life very complicated for the big teams. And I loved that drive and competitiveness. They were relentless.”

Jota’s efforts this season has seen Manchester United linked, with The Express claiming Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side were considering a £50million offer. Last month, The Mail claimed Arsenal were keeping tabs on the ex-Atletico Madrid star.

Everton supporters have reacted on Twitter to Jota’s comments, and many are desperate to see Carlo Ancelotti look to sign the striker to rival Dom Calvert-Lewin in the final third.
