Everton fans react as Watford star Gerard Deulofeu comments on Toffees spell

Gerard Deulofeu has told the Liverpool Echo ahead of Watford’s clash with Everton on Saturday that he felt comfortable at Goodison Park and that he loved the fans – and Everton fans would love him back for a third spell.

Deulofeu, 25, has spent 18 months at Watford since joining the club initially on loan in January 2018 before completing a permanent move to Vicarage Road in the summer of 2018.

He has starred for Watford so far, scoring 13 goals and laying on six assists in 41 outings. The four-time Spain international has enjoyed two spells at Everton, joining the club on loan in 2013-14 before returning in 2015.

Deulofeu left Everton a second time in the summer of 2017 following a brief loan at AC Milan. The Merseyside club remains the side he has made most appearances with, having a hand in 27 goals during his 75 Everton outings.

He told the Echo: “I have a good relationship and a good connection with Everton fans. They love me and I love them. Every time I go to Goodison, the people are really happy and I’m proud about this,” ahead of Saturday’s game.

Everton have plenty of options out wide after bringing in Alex Iwobi from Arsenal on deadline day, with the Nigeria international rivalling Richarlison, Bernard and Theo Walcott for a place out wide.

But Everton fans have reacted to Deulofeu’s comments on Twitter by claiming they would love to see the Spaniard return to Goodison Park in the future, with one fan suggesting a swap between Deulofeu and Walcott.
