Everton fans react as Roberto Martinez and Ronald Koeman go head-to-head for Barcelona job

It seems Barcelona could be on the hunt for a new manager this summer. Despite winning La Liga, the club’s capitulation against Liverpool in the Champions League had Ernesto Valverde on the ropes. Losing to Valencia in the Copa Del Rey final may have been the knockout blow.

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Valverde could walk away this summer and a shortlist has been drawn up of potential replacements. Two of the names on that list have Everton fans scratching their heads.

Both Ronald Koeman and Roberto Martinez are being linked with the role.

MD reports that Koeman, currently in charge of the Dutch national team, remains a huge figure at Barcelona because of his heroics as a player at the Nou Camp.

Belgium boss Martinez, on the other hand, is good friends with Barca general manager Pep Segura.

Everton fans are simply mystified at the links. Whilst both men made promising starts to their Everton managerial careers both eventually tailed off in dramatic fashion. The pair were both sacked with Everton struggling for form. Martinez’s side had completely given up on defending whilst Koeman turned a potential top-four challenging side into relegation fodder over the course of a summer.

It is fair to say plenty of Everton fans on Twitter cannot see either man getting the job. In fact, many would argue even David Moyes has a better claim to the throne.
