Rio Ferdinand has told BT Sport that he believes Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Idrissa Gueye has improved since leaving Everton to join the French champions – and Everton fans are unimpressed on Twitter.
Gueye, 29, signed for PSG in the summer for £29million (Guardian) after three years at Goodison Park which saw him become a fan favourite during his 108 league and cup appearances for the Blues.
The Senegal cap sat in a midfield three alongside Marco Verratti and Marquinhos on Wednesday, as PSG earned a comfortable 3-0 win over Real Madrid. Angel Di Maria got the man of the match award for his brace, but Gueye was just as good.
Ferdinand reckons Gueye has improved since his move to France, despite playing just four times so far for Thomas Tuchel’s side – and claimed it looked as though Gueye had been playing at this level for years.
“I’d seen him at Everton and though he was a really good player,” Ferdinand said. “But he showed more tonight. He was comfortable, brought people into the game, it looked like he had been playing at this level for years.”
In a side like PSG, that dominate the ball, Gueye can shine. It may be the case that Gueye is surrounded by better players, rather than actually improving himself since his move to PSG.
Everton fans reacted to Ferdinand’s comments by ridiculing the BT Sport pundit, stating that he has been this good for a while and that Ferdinand is only noticing this now because he is playing in the Champions League.
that's because he has been playing that good for years smh

So basically Ferdinand is a tool

Classic case of Everton players being ignored. He was best dm in Europe at Everton, he is still the best dm but now he is at PSG so poor pundits speak only now.

💙👍🏼 He’s always been that player though to be fair. Just never got to show it on a Tuesday or Wednesday on BT. Let’s be honest can’t see Rio taking loads of Everton games in he isn’t covering 😂

What nonsense. He's been playing like that for at least 2 years now, only difference being he can now attack a bit more with a higher quality of player around him. You pundits just haven't watched him enough with him not being in the Champions League. #BandwagonWatchers

Which is exactly what he did for Everton week in week out. We aren't a top 6 side though so it went unnoticed
