Everton earned an excellent 2-1 victory over Leicester City on Wednesday evening in the Premier League as Brendan Rodgers’ side continue to struggle since the restart – and Toffees fans have applauded Mason Holgate.
The Toffees came into the match as Carlo Ancelotti looks to make a late push towards potential European qualification, and his side took an early two-goal lead that Leicester failed to recover from.
Anthony Gordon continued on the right flank and it was the youngster’s cross that saw Richarlison smash home to open the scoring on 10 minutes. It took just six minutes for Everton to nab their second.
Gylfi Sigurdsson put Everton 2-0 up after a lengthy interval in which VAR checked a handball from Wilfried Ndidi. Holgate was to blame for Leicester’s strike in the second half.
His clearance struck the face of Kelechi Iheanacho and somehow went into the net. But the £2million (ESPN) was solid alongside Michael Keane otherwise – keeping Jamie Vardy and Leicester’s other attackers at bay.
Everton supporters reacted to Holgate’s display at the back and many applauded the former Barnsley man, who has played in every single Premier League match since October 19 for Everton.
