This summer saw Everton sell fan favourite Idrissa Gana Gueye to Paris Saint-Germain. The 29-year-old left in a deal reported by The Guardian to be worth around £29 million.
The Senegalese international had nearly made the move in January but Everton did not want to sell midway through the season. However, when PSG came knocking again in the summer Everton allowed his exit.
It was a difficult departure for the Everton fans to take as Gueye had consistently been one of the best players at Goodison Park for a number of years.
But fans were also hopeful he could go on and become a star at PSG and prove himself in the Champions League. Based on last night, that should not be a problem.
Gueye put on a fantastic showing as PSG defeated Real Madrid 3-0 in the French capital. Gueye dominated the midfield in a man-of-the-match display. He even provided an assist for Angel Di Maria in a display that highlighted what Everton fans have known for some time regarding Gueye’s quality.
Everton fans were left pining for his services on social media after this sensational display. Maybe the Toffees did not ask for enough money for their star midfielder.
