Everton’s youngsters continued their fine start to the new season with a win against senior League One side Burton Albion in the EFL Trophy last night.
Following on from a penalty shoot-out win against Mansfield Town in their first game Everton picked up an even more impressive 2-0 win at the Pirelli Stadium against Nigel Clough’s men.
Again, the usual suspects impressed for Everton’s youngsters. David Unsworth has top talents in his team at present, with the likes of Lewis Gibson, Ryan Astley and Anthony Gordon, in particular, all in great form.

But striker Ellis Simms’ form cannot be under-estimated.
He scored the opening goal last night, taking his tally for the season to three in all competitions. It was an impressive finish from the 18-year-old, especially considering his opposition.
Simms got the better of two experienced centre-backs in 31-year-old pairing John-Joe O’Toole and Colin Daniel last night, before slotting the ball beyond former Premier League stopper Stephen Bywater. It was a true test of his abilities and one he passed with flying colours.
Whilst his team-mate Anthony Gordon may be the player ready for first-team football at Goodison Park, that time is not yet upon Simms. But he was just shy of scoring 40 goals last season and is now bringing his under-18 form up to the under-23s. Keep up this form and he will soon be knocking at Marco Silva’s door.
Here is how Everton fans reacted to his performance v Burton…
