Everton striker Moise Kean was dropped for the Southampton due to a breach of club discipline, Sky Sports have reported.
The teenager – who cost £27.5 million to sign from Juventus in the summer (BBC Sport) – was not included by Marco Silva to take on the Saints at St. Mary’s Stadium on Saturday.
Apparently Kean was late for a team meeting and it was therefore decided he would play no part against Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side.
It is the second time Kean has been late for a team meeting since joining the club.
Eyebrows were raised when Kean’s name was left off the teamsheet, and some criticised Silva who appeared to have dropped the 19-year-old for ‘tactical reasons’.
The manager has not been using Kean too much lately and that has not sat well with some Toffees supporters.
Speaking before the game when asked, he said: “Yeah. [His reaction was] really good.
“For sure, he will react stronger the next training sessions when he will be with us.”
Perhaps Silva was hoping news of the player’s second disciplinary wouldn’t get out, and he pushed the ‘tactical reasons’ narrative in order to try and protect the Italian striker.
Everton fans react
A number of Everton fans expressed their concerns about Kean on Twitter, given that this is the second time he has been punished for being late, but there were also some supporting the youngster:
Everyone Toffee is behind him and we all hope it’s just a blip,to think othewise is absurd but it’s ok to ask the question “is he focused enough?” or could he have an attitude problem” we don’t all look on with blue tinted glasses(I do most of the time?)

Kid is 19. When I was 19 and in college I was late for or missed almost every 8am class I had. I still graduated and backed successful. People need to relax.

It’s a mountain out of a molehill. Silva was right to maidelime him but it doesn’t mean Kean is a bad person and we don’t even know the circumstances.

I recall Silva taking a load of abuse on Saturday because he wasn’t in the squad, and so so he shouldn’t be if he is late. The post being no one sees what goes on behind the scenes.

Can’t say we weren’t warned!

Fair play. Don’t follow the rules don’t play. Just because he’s a big talent doesn’t mean he’s better than the other players in regard to their responsibilities.

Needs to sort his head out

People saying he’s only 19 and who hasn’t been late for work. Been late twice for us that we know and Italy too. Have Davies DCL or any other young players been getting dropped for this? I wonder if Schneiderlin was late would the fans make excuses for him.

He was late, he’s been disciplined for it, we move on. Sorted!

Not the first time he has ran into trouble with time keeping. He had a few issues at juve as well. He is young and impetuous i would say and after coming over it was a possibility there could be a few teething problems. If he follows davies and holgate attituds he will be fine
