Everton fans react as club reportedly looking to agree Mason Holgate deal

Everton are reportedly looking to tie Mason Holgate down to a longer contract at Goodison Park as a reward for the defender shining in the first team under Carlo Ancelotti – and Everton fans have reacted to the reported news on Twitter.

Phil Jagielka returned to Sheffield United in the summer, while Kurt Zouma’s season-long loan from Chelsea expired at the end of last season. It left Everton with little option but to bring Holgate back into the side, after impressing at West Brom.

The majority of Holgate’s 70 appearances for Everton have come on the right side of the defence, but this season, the England youth international has been used at centre-back given the lack of depth – and he has leapt at the opportunity.

Right now, Holgate’s form is keeping Michael Keane out of the side and The Telegraph claim Everton are about to reward the defender by offering him a new deal. His current contract expires at the end of the 2021-22 season.

The Northern Echo claimed in January that Newcastle United were interested in Holgate, who is believed to have a value of around £14million. But having remained at Goodison and now likely to sign a new deal, Newcastle will miss out the defender.

Everton fans have reacted on Twitter to the reported news that Holgate could be about to sign a new deal with the club, and many believe he is more than deserving of new terms.
