Everton fans react as club reportedly interested in Manchester United star
Everton are interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek – and Everton fans have reacted, after Marcel Brands’ comments.
Van de Beek, 24, has struggled for game time at United ever since he swapped Ajax for United. His £120k-a-week (Spotrac) deal ends in 2025.
The Netherlands international has only started 17 of his 39 games for Manchester United, with only three appearances coming in 2021-22.
He needs a move, ideally, with the January window approaching. Marcel Brands has confirmed that Everton tried to sign him in the summer.
The Everton sporting director told NOS that the Toffees tried to sign van de Beek on loan in the summer – and said that a January move is a possibility.
“We had him on our list,” Brands said. “At the end of the window, I received a call that he might be loaned out. But at the last minute it was cancelled.
“It is early October, so much can still happen with injuries. United are playing on various fronts, it’s hard to say now.”
What do Everton fans think of Manchester United ace van de Beek?
Everton could do with van de Beek. The midfielder needs a run of games and if he was able to replicate his Ajax form, he hugely improves Everton.
Of course, Everton have had nightmares over signing Dutch playmakers from Ajax in the past. Davy Klaassen cost a lot of money, but flopped.
But right now, a number 10 is probably what Everton lack. Abdoulaye Doucoure is shining, alongside Allan in the middle of the park.
Having lost James Rodriguez, a 10 in front of those two midfielders – with Demarai Gray and Richarlison out wide – van de Beek is needed at Everton.
