Everton are reportedly interested in luring Atletico Madrid defender Santiago Arias to Goodison Park this summer, seven years after Marcel Brands lured Arias to PSV Eindhoven in 2013 – and Toffees fans have reacted on Twitter.
Colombian outlet Antena2 have claimed that Everton are interested in signing the 28-year-old right-back, who has fallen down the pecking order at Atleti. The signing of Kieran Trippier from Tottenham last summer has limited Arias to just 11 games.
Everton have plenty of right-sided defenders in the form of Seamus Coleman, Cuco Martina and on-loan star Djibril Sidibe, the latter of which was first choice under Carlo Ancelotti. Jonjoe Kenny is currently impressing on loan at Schalke.
However, it may cost an eight-figure fee to land Sidibe on a permanent basis while Martina is expected to leave Merseyside at the end of the season given his contact expires. Kenny has attracted admirers elsewhere thanks to his Schalke form.
A 53-time Colombia international, Arias is very experienced having clocked up the best part of 250 club appearances and many for his national side. At PSV, Arias had a hand in 31 goals during his 172 outings – scoring 10 and creating 21.
Everton supporters have reacted on Twitter to the reported news that Arias could be on his way to Merseyside in the near future, and the majority of those that commented are keen to see the £11million (Echo) Atletico Madrid star in blue.
Yes. Sign him. 100% a good Coleman replacement. Similar player football wise

Would be a good backup .. don’t see him being good enough to be in the starting 11 consistently in the premier league
