Everton fans react as Calvert-Lewin pulls out of England squad

Some Everton fans were over the moon with the news Dominic Calvert-Lewin has withdrawn from the England squad.

What’s the story?

The Blues frontman picked up a thigh injury in the side’s 2-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion.

In a post on the Everton website, the club confirmed Calvert-Lewin had pulled out.

However, Calvert-Lewin might not be the only player to pull out of the squad. Tyrone Mings is set for a scan on a bruised rib picked up in Aston Villa’s draw with Brentford, as per Sky Sports.

The 24-year-old has already made 11 caps for the Three Lions, scoring four goals. He played backup to Harry Kane at Euro 2020, but, only played 18 minutes.

England withdrawal great news for Everton and Calvert-Lewin

After a great start to the season, an England withdrawal is great news for Everton and Calvert-Lewin.

The forward needs a well-earned rest after a brutal last year or so. An action-packed season was swiftly followed the European Championships.

And after completing 90 minutes in all but the last Premier League game, an injury was always likely.

Hopefully for Everton, the centre-forward will make a swift recovery and return to the fore for the Blues.

However, there needs to be caution over how much Rafa Benitez uses the ace after recent transfer news.

Moise Kean is closing in on a move to Juventus, and with no centre-forward addition looking likely before tonight’s deadline, there must be a cautious approach.

Calvert-Lewin may well be the only striking option for the remainder of the season. He needs to be used wisely.

Here is how fans reacted to the news…
