Everton faced Lincoln City in the EFL Cup last night, winning 4-2 in a hotly-contested encounter in which they went behind early on.
In the wake of that, youngster Callum Connolly has joined the League One club on a season-long loan deal and the fact that it came so soon after the fixture was not lost on some fans.
Connolly told Lincoln’s official website: “It’s great to be here. Lincoln are a club on the up and the manager’s philosophy was appealing, and hopefully I can continue to improve here.
“There have been a few people at Everton who have recommended Lincoln to me as a great club, and hopefully it can be as good as the reviews I’ve received.”

Some fans weren’t happy with how the game played out, and had some less than complimentary things to say about Connolly’s new team-mates.
Others marveled at how Marcel Brands managed to get the deal over the line so close to the clash between the two sides, or said the deal was something of a consolation for beating them.
Either way, they’ll likely want to see Connolly continue his development with the Imps, who genuinely impressed last night and gave Marco Silva’s side a fright.
