Everton fans react as Benitez reportedly battling Liverpool to sign 24-year-old
Everton are reportedly one of three Premier League clubs looking to sign Newcastle star Allan Saint-Maximin – and Everton fans have reacted.
Saint-Maximin, 24, is in the form of his life. A blistering start to the Premier League season has seen him score two goals and lay on three assists.
It might have been a lot more, had his teammates finished the chances he created against Watford on Saturday. Many feel he is carrying Newcastle.
Even Toon fan Don Hutchison said, earlier this week, that he is ‘petrified‘ at losing Saint-Maximin. Now, one of his old clubs in Everton are keen.
CalcioMercato report that Everton and Rafa Benitez are battling two of his old clubs in the race for Saint-Maximin – Liverpool and Chelsea.
Everton do have options in the final third, even after allowing James Rodriguez to leave the club and move to the Middle East – with Al-Rayyan.
The bargain signings of Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend have proved to be bargain buys – while Richarlison is one of the first names on the list.
What are Everton fans saying as Benitez eyes Saint-Maximin?
But adding a player of Saint-Maximin’s quality to the side would take Everton forward, strengthening their claims for a place in the top six.
Would he join a side that are not currently competing in Europe? With Liverpool and Chelsea also keen, it might deter him from Everton.
But his game time would be much greater at Goodison Park. Everton fans have reacted on Twitter, as Benitez eyes Saint-Maximin.
