Everton fans react after being linked with former manager Marco Silva

Everton links have emerged mentioning Marco Silva as a potential target for them – and some Toffees fans on Twitter are not happy with the news.

The Merseyside giants are on the search for a new manager following the departure of Carlo Ancelotti earlier this week, and supporters will hope they can wrap something up well in advance of the new league season.

Sky Sports claims Everton are discussing Portuguese boss Silva as a possible target, but there is no talks of anything else at this stage.

The 43-year-old manager previously had an 18-month spell at Goodison Park. However, that was cut short back in 2019 when his side were in the relegation zone of the Premier League.

He’s not returned to management since leaving Everton in December 2019, but is now being linked with a surprise return.

Silva an unpopular choice with Everton fans

A selection of Everton fans on social media are against Silva coming back.

His time on Merseyside ended poorly, and it’s hard to picture a different outcome with a similar group of players. Admittedly, there are a few fresh faces now in the XI.

Sky Sports mentions that Everton are set for talks with Nuno Espirito Santo.

The 47-year-old is another Portuguese manager who’s available after leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer.

If you look at the journey he took Wolves in the last few years, he could be a good option for fans. Firstly, he’s shown that he’s a great man-manager that can bring a group together. Secondly, he proved he can get it right in the transfer window with signings to suit him. Finally, he took Wolves to back-to-back seventh-placed finishes to qualify for the Europa League.
