Everton fans rave about defender Lewis Gibson

Everton’s Under-23s side beat Blackburn Rovers on Monday – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter raved about defender Lewis Gibson for his performance.

The young Toffees recored a 2-1 home victory at Goodison Park Park, as they defend their Premier League 2 title.

Gibson opened the scoring in the first-half, as he converted from a free-kick with a goal inside the box.

The 19-year-old defender is a physical presence that pushes forward for set-pieces and he got on the end of one for his team with a side-footed finish.

Blackburn drew level through Joseph Rankin-Costello, but Everton wrapped up three points when substitute Ellis Simms calmly slotted in the winner.

David Unsworth’s young Everton side are a strong outfit that have been very successful in recent times and once again look formidable this season.

A selection of Everton supporters on social media picked out Gibson for praise following his latest display and some feel he should be knocking on the first-team door.

The teenage centre-back is someone that is calm on the ball and became an important player last season for the Under-23s.

It looks like there could be room for him to push into the plans of senior boss Marco Silva as a fourth-choice centre-back behind Yerry Mina, Michael Keane and Mason Holgate.
