Everton fans praise Pickford after much-needed clean sheet against Cardiff

The extended break before Everton’s trip to Cardiff last night did the trick as they got themselves back on track with a comfortable 3-0 win.

A double from Gylfi Sigurdsson and a late strike from Dominic Calvert-Lewin sealed the points and inflicted more home misery on the Bluebirds – securing a much-needed victory to take them up to ninth.

Perhaps just as important as the goals was the clean sheet at the other end. Everton are somewhat short on centre-backs and have been awful at defending set pieces so far this season.

And that meant a trip to a physical outfit like Cardiff could have been a banana-skin, but Jordan Pickford and his defence kept Neil Warnock’s side in check.

It has been quite the week for Pickford after the birth of his first child and he got the clean sheet to continue the good news.

Now, his attention turns to the visit of Liverpool on Sunday. And Pickford did not cover himself in glory in the reverse fixture, making a meal of Virgil van Dijk’s volley to allow Divock Origi to net a late winner.

But he has the opportunity to make amends on Sunday and put the boot into Liverpool’s title challenge and these supporters feel he can do exactly that, buoyed by the confidence of a midweek clean sheet…
