Everton fans praise Fabian Delph after pre-season defeat to Sevilla

Fabian Delph played in Everton’s defeat to Sevilla on Saturday afternoon – but some of the club’s supporters on Twitter were impressed with his performance.

The Toffees are taking part in the Opel Cup on Saturday, which is a three-team tournament taking place between them, Sevilla and Mainz.

Marco Silva’s team suffered a 1-0 defeat to Sevilla in the opening match and play Mainz at 3pm, with each game consistency of two 30-minute halves.

Sevilla’s Lucas Ocampos scored the only goal from the penalty spot and that came after a four from Mason Holgate in the second period.

Delph got an hour of football under his belt in the pre-season fixture and is adapting to life with the Merseyside club following his £9million (Sky Sports) transfer from Manchester City this summer.

The 29-year-old central midfielder slotted in next to Andre Gomes and looked comfortable against Sevilla.

He showcased his tough tackling and great energy in the centre of the park, while he looked confident when in possession on his favoured left foot too.

A selection of Everton supporters were pleased with Delph’s display at the weekend and feel he’s a positive addition at Goodison Park.

He’s someone that has played at the top level with Manchester City and England, while he should still be in the peak years of his career.
