Everton endured a second half collapse against Newcastle at St James’ Park on Saturday, blowing a 2-0 lead to end up with a 3-2 defeat thanks to late goals from Ayoze Perez.
The momentum generated by last weekend’s impressive result against bitter rivals Liverpool continued into the first half as the Toffees raced into a two-goal lead.
They got a lucky escape when Jordan Pickford escaped a red card for a foul on Salomon Rondon, before saving the striker’s penalty but it all fell apart in the second half.
The decision to bring on Yerry Mina and change formation was perhaps a catalyst for the embarrassing collapse but there was also just a general lack of fight and spirit in the second half.

It was a poor display in that second period but one player who impressed the Everton supporters regardless was Lucas Digne.
The summer signing from Barcelona has been impressive all campaign – some fans have called him their player of the season already – and continued it again in the north east.
Many Everton fans love him and reacted to his performance with pleasure as a much-needed positive from a chastening afternoon against a former Liverpool manager in Rafa Benitez…
