Everton have confirmed that defender Brendan Galloway has left to join Luton Town – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have expressed their frustration with the news.

The Toffees have confirmed on their official website that the 23-year-old has joined Championship side Luton on a free transfer. He is a left-back that will link up with a Luton side that achieved promotion from League One last season as champions.

Galloway had a frustrating individual campaign last year, as he was stuck playing Under-23s football and received no first-team action at Goodison Park.

The full-back has played 21 senior games for Everton and was once dubbed as a potential successor to Leighton Baines.

But he was unable to kick on during loan spells with West Brom and Sunderland in previous years, which has now resulted in his permanent exit.

A selection of Everton fans on social media are disappointed that Galloway has departed and feel that they could regret the decision.

He still had one year remaining on his contract at Goodison Park, but will now look for regular football in the Championship with Luton.

The defender failed to live up to rising expectation and Lucas Digne has since arrived at the club to take up the first-choice left-back role.
