Everton secured victory over Liverpool on Saturday evening and afterwards, the name on supporters’ lips was that of Jordan Pickford.

The goalkeeper was in fine form as the Toffees defeated their fierce rivals at Anfield for the first time since 1999.

An early goal by Richarlison and a late penalty from Gylfi Sigurdsson proved decisive and continued Liverpool’s horrible run of form.

Everton are now level on points with their Stanley Park rivals and have a game in hand on Jurgen Klopp’s team.

Carlo Ancelotti got his game plan spot on and he’ll hope this result gives his team a platform to kick on even further.

Pickford spent some time out injured recently, missing three games against Leeds, Manchester United and Fulham.

He returned to the team in midweek against Manchester City and won the faith of his manager against Liverpool.

Firmly established as the club’s number one, Pickford showed the sort of form that saw him win a £25 million transfer to Everton in 2017.

His ability is a topic that divides opinion but the save he made from Gini Wijnaldum in the second-half proved a catalyst for Everton to claim local bragging rights.
