Everton fans impressed by comments from defender Ben Godfrey

Ben Godfrey has discussed making his Everton debut in an unfamiliar position at the weekend – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter are thrilled with his comments.

The Toffees signed the centre-back from Norwich City for £25million (BBC) at the beginning of October and he’s arrived at Goodison Park as a highly-rated talent with plenty of potential.

Despite suffering relegation from the top-flight last season, the English defender was a real leader in the Norwich backline and he’s earned a move back to the Premier League as a result.

The 22-year-old was named on the bench on Saturday for the Merseyside clash against Liverpool, which finished 2-2 in the league fixture courtesy of a late Dominic Calvert-Lewin equaliser.

Godfrey made his Everton debut when he replaced injured captain Seamus Coleman after just 30 minutes and he was asked to fill in at right-back, something he did superbly well.

He has spoken about his Toffees debut:

“Right-back is a bit different but, as I said when I came to the Club, I am ready to play in any position and give it 100 per cent,” he told the club’s official website.

“Getting forward is a bit different for me but I just wanted to give everything to every part of the role.

“I’ve not played right-back very often but I wanted to do my best… to have a positive affect on the game and help the lads get three points, or one point minimum.”

A selection of Everton supporters on social media believe their new signing has the perfect attitude to succeed with them moving forward.

His long-term future has to be in his favoured centre-back position, but showing versatility to slot in at full-back will surely help his chance to play regularly and make an impact at his new club.

There was a glimpse into his defensive qualities with blocks and tackles, while he surprised a few with some strong attacking moments as well.
