Everton fans hail Gomes after he showed steely side in vital Bournemouth win

Everton produced a lacklustre first half performance in yesterday’s match against Bournemouth and it looked if Eddie Howe’s side would put their recent struggles to one side and secure a vital win.

The Cherries let their hosts off the hook when David Brooks went through one on one in the opening period, only to see his shot bounce back off the post, but it was clear Marco Silva’s side needed to improve.

Goodison Park will forgive a lack of quality when the effort is there and while they now know that Andre Gomes possesses silkiness in abundance, but he showed a sturdier side to his game yesterday.

The Barcelona loanee put himself around in midfield – going close to the mark at times – but showed the basic effort and toughness that is sometimes needed to secure a win in the Premier League.

Kurt Zouma and Dominic Calvert-Lewin eventually got the goals that carried Everton to a much-needed 2-0 victory after a dodgy Christmas period, but the steel of Gomes in midfield did not go unnoticed by the fans.
