Everton fans “gutted” as their 28-year-old is not included in England squad

Michael Keane has not been included in the latest England squad – and some Everton fans on Twitter are “gutted” that their defender has been overlooked.

Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate announced his squad on Thursday for this month’s international fixtures against San Marino, Albania and Poland.

Keane, 28, was included in the most recent England squad back in November, but there is no room for him this time around with this summer’s European Championships fast approaching.

The centre-back has 12 senior caps for his country, and it’s come as a surprise to many that he’s been left out on Thursday.

He’s been an ever-present for Everton this season, playing a key role in Carlo Ancelotti’s side push for a European finish in the Premier League.

The ball-playing centre-half is comfortable in possession and a leader at the back, plus he’s an aerial threat with four gaols across all competitions this season.

A selection of Everton supporters on social media are shocked that Keane isn’t part of Southgate’s squad.

Conor Coady, Eric Dier, Harry Maguire, Tyrone Mings, John Stones and versatile defender Kyle Walker are the centre-back options that England will have available to them in a back three.

Here are some Toffees fans discussing Keane’s omission:
