Everton’s opening game of the Premier League season ended in a rather flat 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace. The Toffees fanbase is excited ahead of the new campaign after some considerable investment in the club this summer. However, only returning loanee Andre Gomes started the game from Everton’s new recruits.
There were several positives to take from the performance. Michael Keane and Yerry Mina were excellent at centre-back whilst Lucas Digne picked up where he left off last season.
However, Everton fans were again left disappointed with the performance of Icelandic midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson.
The playmaker struggled to get a grip on proceedings throughout the game.

Firstly, he should have given Everton the lead when a chance fell to him early on. Unfortunately, he misguided his shot wide of Vicente Guatia’s goal.
Then, it was his hospital pass that led to Gomes leaving the game injured, which massively impacted Everton’s performance.
Sigurdsson is now renowned for being hit-or-miss among the Goodison faithful. Today was one of his more anonymous displays as he failed to put a stamp on the game. When he did pop up, he failed to execute with the desired impact.
Everton fans will be hoping for more from the 29-year-old throughout the season…
