Everton fans discuss Mason Holgate’s performance after win over Leicester City
Everton produced a stunning performance to beat Leicester City 2-0 away from home as Carlo Ancelotti got his tactics spot on – and Toffees supporters have raved about the performance of defender Mason Holgate.
The Toffees came into the match with somewhat of a defensive crisis. Both left-back options in Lucas Digne and Fabian Delph were sidelined through injury, while Seamus Coleman and Jean-Philippe Gbamin remain sidelined.
It saw Ancelotti use summer signing Godfrey on the left side of the defence despite the ex-Norwich man being right-footed. He also played right-footed centre-back Holgate at right-back – despite Jonjoe Kenny being on the bench.
Despite the makeshift defence, Everton sparkled at the King Power. A long-range strike from Richarlison was followed by a second from Holgate – his first ever Premier League goal in his 69th top-flight appearance.
Not only did Holgate break his Premier League duck, but the £2million (ESPN) signing was impressive at right-back. It is a role he has played in the past, but perhaps not so much of late – instead being used at centre-back.
Everton supporters took to Twitter after the match to discuss Holgate’s performance and many were delighted with the former Barnsley man’s efforts – WhoScored claim he made more tackles than any of his teammates.
A great performance from Everton and another big win! Fantastic performances from near enough the whole team, but Mason Holgate, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Alex Iwobi were standout performers. Allan was also fantastic until his injury – hopefully he recovers quickly. UTFT! #LEIEVE

Even though he's only just come back from injury, I really think Mason Holgate should be a consideration for England. He's a pretty complete defender, and should be ahead of Maguire and Coady. I'd probably pair him with Gomez when he comes back
