Everton finally earned their first home win in the Premier League of 2021 with a narrow 1-0 victory over Southampton on Monday night thanks to Richarlison’s early strike – and Everton fans have praised Ben Godfrey.
The Toffees came into the match with the chance to go level on points with Merseyside rivals Liverpool as they remain in seventh place. They last won a home game in the league, though, on December 19 against Arsenal.
However, buoyed by the win over Liverpool last time out, Everton ended that poor run with a narrow win. Richarlison notched his 11th of the season. The Toffees saw the game out, to climb level on points with the Reds.

The combination of England defender Michael Keane and Godfrey at centre-back worked well, with Mason Holgate being deployed as a right-back – and Lucas Digne from the left. Godfrey has enjoyed an excellent season so far.
The summer signing, who earns £77,000 a week (Spotrac) at Everton, clocked up his 25th appearance under Carlo Ancelotti since joining from Norwich – further strengthening his calls for a place in England’s Euro 2021 side.
Everton supporters reacted on Twitter to his sparkling performance at the back, and many were full of praise for their English defender – with one fan even claiming that he is “great on the ball”.
