Everton earned a second consecutive 5-2 win over League One side Fleetwood Town in the third round of the Carabao Cup, after beating West Brom by the same scoreline on Saturday – and Toffees fans have lauded Alex Iwobi.
Richarlison opened the scoring after a wonderful ball from fellow Brazilian Bernard was headed in by the ex-Watford man. Richarlison gave Everton a 2-0 lead at the break, after a stunning backheeled assist from Iwobi.
Fleetwood – managed by Everton fan Joey Barton – rallied in the second half. Just two minutes after entering the fray as a half-time substitute, veteran Mark Duffy halved Everton’s lead only for Iwobi to score Everton’s third.
Anthony Gordon reached the byline and while Richarlison’s wild swing at the ball saw him fail to make contact, Iwobi was there to tidy up behind him. It was only Iwobi’s third Everton goal since his £34million (BBC) move.
Fleetwood got another through Callum Camps but Everton completed what they set out to do thanks to a Bernard strike on 73 minutes and then an effort from Moise Kean in injury time. It was Iwobi’s second outing this term.
Everton supporters reacted to the former Arsenal man’s display on Wednesday night, as the Toffees progress into the fourth round of the competition. Many were impressed, and think he deserves to be considered in the league.
