England slipped to a 2-1 away defeat against Czech Republic on Friday night – and some Everton fans on Twitter ripped into their defender Michael Keane for his performance.
The Three Lions were beaten in Prague in a European Championship group stage qualifier, as Harry Kane’s early penalty was cancelled out by goals from Jakub Brabec and substitute Zdenek Ondrasek.
Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford started in goal for Gareth Southgate’s team, while club teammate Keane was also in the defence.
Keane has established himself as a regular at centre-back for the national side alongside Manchester United’s Harry Maguire, but didn’t cover himself in glory on Friday night.
The 26-year-old defender could be questioned for his positioning in both goals scored by Czech Republic and looked nervous in the backline.
He’s been playing for an Everton team that are struggling in 18th in the Premier League table and it won’t have helped his confidence when joining up with England.
A selection of Everton supporters on social media were highly critical of Keane following his display on the international stage.
He’s the main Toffees centre-back alongside Yerry Mina at Goodison Park this campaign, but they are struggling defensively and it seems like there is a lot of pressure on him building.
Here are some Everton fans commenting on Keane:
Keane with one player to mark and he has his back to him and he scores hahaha

Pickford and Keane at the back and England concede from a corner 👀

Harry Maguire is and was not worth £80 million.
Declan Rice is average.
Jesse Lingard is apparently only 6 years old and needs time to develop.
Marcus Rashford has a goal record as bad as Nicklas Bendtner’s.
Michael Keane has lost the ability to defend set pieces.

Big Mick Keane getting attracted to the ball and not sticking with his man I’m in shock 🤣🤦🏼♂️

Wait… Michael Keane had the ability to defend at set pieces? Must’ve lost that first day he walked into FF.

Michael Keane is still thinking about zonal marking ! I don’t know how bright Keane is but if he is as “bright” as Ross, then we have a problem.
