Everton fans criticise Gylfi Sigurdsson after penalty miss

Gylfi Sigurdsson played in Iceland’s win over Andorra on Monday night – and some Everton fans on Twitter slammed their player after the international fixture.

The Toffees playmaker played 90 minutes in the European Championship group stage qualifier and missed a penalty in the second-half.

Iceland did record a 2-0 home victory though against Andorra, with Arnor Sigurdsson and Kolbeinn Sigthorsson both on the scoresheet.

Sigurdsson has had some trouble from the penalty spot in the past for Everton and that weakness was once again highlighted on the international stage.

The attacking midfielder has not had a great start to the season at Goodison Park and ended a confidence list during the international break.

He’s scored just one goal in 10 games across all competitions so far this season for the Toffees, which was in a cup win over Lincoln City.

Marco Silva’s side have made a poor start to the season and one of the talisman Sigurdsson has been behind that by saying his individual form drop.

A selection of Everton supporters on social media voiced their frustration towards Sigurdsson and called him out for missing his penalty.

The 30-year-old has remained an ever-present in Silva’s XI this campaign and it will be intriguing to see how much longer that continues.
