Everton fans should consider Richarlison success as they line up Walter Kannemann

According to Corriere Dello Sport, Everton are interested in snapping up Gremio defender Walter Kannemann. The Toffees are said to be challenging Cagliari for his services.

It is certainly something of a shock move from the Toffees. The club needs a new centre-back, especially with Ashley Williams now looking likely to head to Stoke City. But Kannemann is something of a shock deal that fans would probably find underwhelming.

The 27-year-old Argentine has never played in Europe and, despite what was some fantastic form for the Brazilian side last season, that does count for something.

However, Everton fans should look at their recent signing before writing him off.

The Toffees agreed a deal reported to be in the region of £50 million for Richarlison last week. It was a massive deal for a player who thrived under Marco Silva at Everton last season.

Of course, he arrived at Watford with zero experience of European football. Spells at America Mineiro and Fluminense in his Brazilian homeland are what preceded his move to Hertfordshire.

Kannemann, although admittedly older, was perhaps better in his season at Gremio last season than Richarlison was at Fluminense.

Silva managed to get the best out of Richarlison and will hope to again. He might be able to do the same with another recruit from Brazilian football.
