Everton fans believe Alex Iwobi is better under Benitez after Huddersfield win
Some Everton fans think Alex Iwobi is a better player under Rafael Benitez after the Toffees beat Huddersfield 2-1.
What’s the story?
The Merseysiders opened the scoring through Iwobi, who slotted in after a run from Tom Davies.
However, they were pegged back when the Terriers scored via a Tom Lees header.
Everton were then handed a red card after Moise Kean clashed with Sorba Thomas before Andros Townsend scored the winner.
But it was Iwobi who caught the eye of the Everton support.
His strike last night means the 25-year-old has been involved in two goals across just three games this season.
Iwobi could get a bigger Everton role
Last season was an underwhelming campaign for the attacker.
Despite playing 36 times across all competitions, the Everton winger scored just twice and assisted three goals. He is already 40% of the way to matching last season’s total in what has been a great start to the term.
The hope is Iwobi continues these performances for Everton after his Huddersfield display.
Competition for places in the wide areas is extremely high for the Blues. Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray have joined this summer, while Kean has returned from his loan spell at PSG.
You would not bet against any of the trio displacing the player. It is part of the reason why the ace needs to maintain his high-level of quality shown in the opening few weeks.
Failure to do so and there will be more questions over why the club spent £34m on him.
Here is how some Everton fans reacted to Iwobi’s performance…

The form iwobi has shown under Benitez is exactly what I hoped he’d be like when we first signed him. There’s a top player there, it’s just who can get the best out of him— isaiah 🦋 (@ZaySpirit) August 25, 2021

An also starting to eat my words on Iwobi been a game changer in the matches we’ve played 👏👏— James Woods (@efc_tiger) August 24, 2021
Iwobi has improved under Rafa, not saying he’s class etc but he’s improved and that’s after just a few weeks.— Browny (@JamesBrownEFC) August 24, 2021
Not going to lie, I was begging to see the want-away James Rodriguez feature for #Everton, but it was never going to happen.— jack walker 💙 (@jack_walker19) August 24, 2021
Moise Kean spent last term on loan at Paris Saint-Germain and he does start tonight. He and Alex Iwobi will be the two livewires for Benitez's side.
Think Benitez might have a slight crush on Iwobi. And I'm okay with that as long as he's performing. Which he is at the minute long may it continue— aj (@1986_legend) August 24, 2021
