Everton lost 3-2 in the Premier League this afternoon with plenty for the Everton fanbase to be annoyed about. Firstly, of course, there was that VAR penalty overturn. The first in the Premier League, it certainly seemed an extremely harsh decision.
Then there was Jordan Pickford’s poor goalkeeping, again, that allowed Brighton’s opening goal. Pascal Gross’ free-kick was good, but not that good.
However, much of the criticism online has been toward a player whose performances from Everton have never been consistent.
Andre Gomes can look like a world-beater one week and a panel-beater the next.

The Portuguese maestro had one of his poor games today in the wet and windy conditions at the Amex.
He struggled to dictate the game in his usual manner, did not make enough forward passes and there was also his efforts in Brighton’s first and third goals. The 26-year-old stupidly gave away a lazy foul which saw Brighton smash home the opening free-kick. Then, in the 94th minute, his attempt at tracking back was more for ceremony rather than conviction.
It was a typically poor performance from a top player who just cannot find a consistent level of form at Everton. When Everton play Watford in the EFL Cup on Wednesday he will probably be back to his mercurial best. But plenty of Everton fans were left extremely frustrated with his performance today.
