Everton fan Joey Barton has applauded Liverpool on Twitter after the Reds scored five excellent goals at Anfield to win the first Merseyside derby of the season 5-2 – highlighting two Reds players for praise.
Liverpool produced a stunning display at Anfield despite Jurgen Klopp bringing in the likes of Divock Origi, Adam Lallana and Xherdan Shaqiri into the side. Origi scored twice, while Shaqiri also got his name on the score sheet.
Gini Wijnaldum and the excellent Sadio Mane were also goalscorers, as they cancelled out efforts from Michael Keane and Richarlison to stretch their 11-point lead over Manchester City at the top – and eight over Leicester City.
Barton, who played for both Everton and Liverpool at academy level, is renowned for being an Everton fan. The Fleetwood Town manager took his hat off, though, to applaud Liverpool despite being an “Evertonian”.
He also praised Mane and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
What a devastating counter attack. Liverpool. TTA and Mane. Top class.
Not easy for Evertonian that. Credit where it’s due.

TBR’s view – Liverpool on fire, surely PL title is wrapped up
The Christmas period will put the final nail in the coffin, if Liverpool can maintain their 11-point lead until the new year. Keep that lead or even build on it come January, and the Reds will have surely won the title.
The fact Klopp can make a number of changes to his side against a side like Everton in a contest such as the Merseyside derby, shows just how much confidence he has in his players. That confidence flows into the players’ performances.
Mane, Alexander-Arnold and others are on fire. But what is great for Liverpool, is that they can bring in a fringe player and expect them to hit thr ground running – because of Klopp’s superb management.
