New Everton midfielder Fabian Delph is closing in on making his debut for his new employers, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The ex-Manchester City man signed for the Toffees for £10 million (BBC Sport) during the summer and his experience could be vital in Marco Silva’s team.
Delph ended a four-year stint with the Premier League champions to make the move to Goodison Park.
He has missed the first three games for his new club after picking up an injury in Everton’s final pre-season outing against Werder Bremen.
Now the Liverpool Echo has confirmed that his recovery has been significant enough that he could make his debut this week.
Everton face Lincoln City in the EFL Cup tomorrow night before taking on Wolves in the Premier League at the weekend.
Delph is likely to get the nod to play in at least one of those and that will represent a positive step for the Toffees.
It has been a mixed bag of performances so far for Silva’s men. An opening day draw with Crystal Palace was followed up with a 1-0 win over Watford. Friday saw the Toffees taste defeat for the first time this season, with Aston Villa defeating them 2-0 at Villa Park.
Delph’s presence could be a timely boost for Silva. Summer recruit Jean-Philippe Gbamin has picked up a thigh injury that could rule him out for 12 weeks.
The England man earns £80,000-a-week (Spotrac) at Goodison Park and his presence in the team could ignite Everton’s season.
