Seamus Coleman captained Republic of Ireland in their 1-1 draw at home to Switzerland on Thursday night – and the Everton defender received plenty of criticism from fans on Twitter for his performance.
Mick McCarthy’s side earned a point in the European Championship qualifier at the Aviva Stadium.
Visitors Switzerland opened the scoring in the 74th minute with a low driven finish from Newcastle United’s Fabian Schar, but David McGoldrick of Sheffield United responded with a header for Ireland in the closing stages.
Ireland are top of Group D as it stands and have 11 points from five games, as they aim to reach next summer’s major international tournament.

A selection of international fans singled out Coleman for criticism following his display for the Irish.
The 30-year-old delivered a captain’s performance with some crucial defensive moments, which included a last-ditch header at the back post that may have prevented a Swiss goal to earn three points.
He didn’t offer too much offensively and that is a part of the right-back’s game that has faded in recent times.
Coleman is still a regular in the Everton team, but does have fresh competition at Goodison Park from summer recruit Djibril Sidibe.
