Everton host Brighton on Saturday afternoon in the Premier League and defender Jonjoe Kenny has been ruled out of the contest through injury.
The 21-year-old right-back will watch on from the sidelines and is sure to be keeping a close eye on his teammate Seamus Coleman.
Kenny is an upcoming talent at Goodison Park that has had a decent taste of first-team football and featured four times already in the Premier League this season.
But first-choice right-back Seamus Coleman has replaced him again since his comeback from his own injury and has all the experience on his younger counterpart.
Coleman, 30, has been a top performer for the Merseyside club over a number of years, but there are signs that he’s not quite the player he once was.
The full-back is likely to get a third start in a row against Brighton and he could do with a top performance to remind manager Marco Silva of his quality.
Coleman gave away a penalty recently in a win over Crystal Palace, while he was run ragged by Manchester United’s Anthony Martial last weekend in defeat.
Kenny appears to be the natural successor to Coleman at right-back, but whether that changeover will happen anytime soon remains to be seen.
The youngster is certainly nowhere near the finished article yet, but has shown great potential in the first team and is likely to be watching rival Coleman closely at the weekend for any slip-ups that could leave the door open for him.
