The 2018/19 campaign is petering towards a close for Everton and one eye will soon cast towards next season.
Marco Silva’s side currently sit in ninth position in the Premier League. A European place is still obtainable at this stage, although it seems unlikely.
After a somewhat inconsistent campaign this time around, Silva will strive for better next season. In order to do that, he will undoubtedly look to continue a squad rebuilding process that started in earnest last summer.
Better quality must be the order of the day to go alongside some good players already in place at Goodison Park.
Everton must look towards star quality and Ajax star David Neres would offer exactly that. According to The Telegraph, the Toffees are one of the club’s interested in the player who is rated at £34.5 million.
The 22-year-old has been in stunning form for the Dutch giants this season. In 45 appearances he has netted 12 goals and contributed 15 assists for the club.
Neres is capable of playing in any of the three positions alongside a striker, although he has performed especially well on the left wing this season.
He has also been instrumental in Ajax’s run through to the latter stages of the Champions League. He notched in the famous win at the Bernabeu that knocked Real Madrid out in the last 16.
It is little wonder that clubs are looking at the Brazilian. Everton making a move for one of the most sought-after young players in world football would represent a massive coup.
It would make the rest of the Premier League stand up and take notice that the Toffees mean business. Indeed, If Everton only go for one player this summer it absolutely must be Neres.
