Report: Everton now confident of signing 'outstanding' international player, despite Newcastle interest
Everton are now confident they have done enough to see off Newcastle when it comes to the signing of Burnley defender, James Tarkowski.
Tarkowski is one of the most sought-after free-agents on the market this summer. With Burnley having being relegated, Tarkowski is expected to have no problem in securing a move back to a Premier League club. And according to The Times, Everton believe they will get their man.
The Times reports how Frank Lampard is personally working on the deal alongside Kevin Thelwell. The Everton boss sees Tarkowski as the ideal signing to bolster his defence over the summer.
Top Scoring XI This Season (2021-22)
A full England international, Tarkowski has been a mainstay of the Burnley side as they’ve cemented their place in the top flight over the last few years. Alongside Ben Mee, the ‘outstanding‘ 29-year-old has formed one of the more reliable partnerships in the league. However, it wasn’t enough to fend off relegation one more time this year.
Everton, on the other hand, are seeking to give Frank Lampard money and new players to shape his own squad. Lampard managed to keep the Toffees in the league, but there is recognition that a change is needed.
TBR’s View: James Tarkowski Is Suited For Everton
While Tarkowski is good on the ball and can hold his own on that front, he is also the sort of no-nonsense type defender that Everton need. And indeed, the sort of defender who the Goodison Park faithful will love.
In terms of freebies, there won’t be many better out there this summer than James Tarkowski. He’s got PL and international experience, is a good age, and immediately improves both the XI and squad at Goodison.
Lampard’s eagerness to get this deal done says all you need to know about Tarkowski really. He is an excellent player and for nothing, an absolute steal.
