Everton willing to pay £40 million for Chelsea outcast

Everton will pay Chelsea their £40 million asking price for striker Michy Batshuayi, according to a report in The Express.

The Belgian talisman is currently on loan with Crystal Palace where he has scored just three times.

Roy Hodgson’s men won’t be able to afford Chelsea’s valuation and will probably leave Stamford Bridge for pastures new next season.

Everton boss Marco Silva seems certain to target a striker in the summer as he looks to make the Toffees more ruthless in attack.

A stumbling block for Everton landing the 25-year-old could be interest from elsewhere.

Bathsuayi has been courted by Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund ever since a previous loan which reaped seven goals in 10 appearances.

Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson lead the way at Goodison Park this season with 13 goals. After that is Dominic Calvert-Lewin who isn’t yet in double figures, scoring eight times.

TBR Verdict

£40 million for a player who has netted three Premier League goals this season is a sign of the times in modern day football.

Everton could probably go out and land a more lethal goalscorer for a fraction of the price that Chelsea want for Batshuayi.

Silva obviously sees something in the Belgian however. His work rate isn’t in question and it could be the stuff he does for his team-mates that makes him an attractive proposition.

After a stunning season for Dortmund and his previous association with the club, they could prove more inviting for Batshuayi.

The money that Chelsea want to recoup will put a serious dent in Everton’s kitty and they should think twice before choosing whether or not to make the move.
