Everton can scout former target Jonathan Cafu against Liverpool

Everton held a previous interest in winger Jonathan Cafu but decided not to take up the opportunity.

According to L’Equipe (via HITC Sport), Everton were in regular discussions with his former club Ludogorets about a possible switch to Merseyside.

But the Toffees passed up the chance to sign Cafu in the end.

Instead, the Brazilian wide man moved to Bordeaux for a reported £6.6m fee in summer 2017.

However, Cafu only managed 20 appearances for the Ligue 1 side last season, scoring just twice. That was a measly figure in comparison to the 14 goals he scored the season before.

This summer, Cafu moved on loan to Red Star Belgrade for the season. And he has already picked up two goals for his new club.

But did Everton miss a trick by not pursuing Cafu? Well, he is now heading to their city to take on bitter rivals Liverpool in the Champions League.

And tomorrow night’s game at Anfield provides Everton fans with a chance to watch Cafu in action – if he gets playing time.

Everton fans will be intrigued to see how the 27-year-old fares against English opposition, especially against their city rivals.

Tomorrow’s match is surely Cafu’s biggest chance yet to prove that he could be a success in England.
