Everton boss Silva should think about bringing Mason Holgate back into the side

Everton manager Marco Silva should think about taking Seamus Coleman out of the side temporarily and replacing him with Mason Holgate.

The Republic of Ireland international struggled against Watford on Monday night against Roberto Pereyra.

Unfortunately for Coleman, his form just isn’t picking up this term, and he looks a shadow of his former self following his horror leg break early last year.

He has been struggling to make those famous marauding runs down the right, which is evidenced by his statistics of just one goal and no assists; poor by his usual standards.

It may well be time for Silva to make a bold call regarding the club’s temporary captain (with Phil Jagielka and Leighton Baines benched at the moment).

Holgate to return at right-back?

Holgate did a lot of deputising for Coleman last season during his recovery and showed that he can look comfortable there.

Jonjoe Kenny came in for Coleman earlier in the current season, but looked a little out of his depth.

It could be something for Silva to consider, especially with Holgate likely feeling he has something to prove having faded into the background. He’s made just five appearances in the league.

At one point, Holgate looked like he’d become a regular in the side, but Silva’s summer acquisitions Yerry Mina and Kurt Zouma have made things difficult for him.

So perhaps he can come in for an underperforming Coleman with central opportunities unlikely right now. And in-turn, force the Portuguese to think again over a possible loan switch for him in January (Daily Mail).
