Carlo Ancelotti reportedly wanted to sign midfielder Nico Barella during his time as Napoli manager but failed to do so, with the Italy international joining Inter. Now, he has the chance to rid himself of that regret.

CalcioMercato claim that missing out on Barella, 23, was Ancelotti’s biggest regret during his time with the Serie A side. Since then, the 16-time Italy international has become a regular for his country and starred for Inter Milan.

Joining Antonio Conte’s side on a loan deal with an obligation to buy in 2019, Barella instantly became a regular with Inter. He has since joined permanently for a fee believed to be in the region of £45million (Football Italia).

Barella has since clocked up 51 appearances for Inter – having a hand in 16 goals. It is clear to see why Ancelotti wanted the impressive midfielder at Napoli, and now, the Premier League race for his signature is hotting up.

FC Inter News claim that Liverpool are one of numerous clubs interested in Barella, along with Arsenal, Manchester United, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. He has a contract at Inter until the summer of 2024.

But with the list of Barella’s admirers growing, Everton could surely join their Premier League counterparts in the race to sign the midfielder – and finally allow Ancelotti to rid himself of the regret after initially missing out.

Yes, The Toffees made moves for both Abdoulaye Doucoure and Allan in the summer but another addition could be required – especially one with the legs to have an impact in both boxes. Barella is that man.

Everton need to join Liverpool and Arsenal in the race for Barella, and give Ancelotti another chance to finally get his man.
