Everton are reportedly ‘in contact’ with Maxime Gonalons over a potential deal for the Frenchman this summer. As reported by France Football, Everton along with West Ham are keen on bringing the 30-year-old to England this summer.
The French international spent last year on loan at Sevilla but the Spanish side have no interest in keeping him permanently.
The Roma star has struggled since leaving his role as Lyon captain to try his luck in Italy. However, he is still a top midfield operator who could add serious competition to the position at Goodison Park.
Everton, of course, are hoping to secure the permanent transfer of Andre Gomes from Barcelona this summer. Meanwhile, there are doubts over the future of Idrissa Gana Gueye.
So Gonalons could be an excellent alternative to either of those players. Should Everton fail to sign Gomes, Gonalons can play in his transition role with ease. However, if Gueye ends up departing, the 30-year-old is equally happy sitting deep and controlling the game from a holding role.
Gonalons had injury trouble last season, with a broken fibula and ankle causing his time in Spain to be forgettable. But fit and firing, the Frenchman could be a useful addition to the Everton midfield.
