‘Everton are really weird’: BBC pundit reacts after what he heard Jordan Pickford say following Chelsea win

Jordan Pickford produced a masterclass as Everton earned a shock 1-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday to ignite their survival hopes.

Pickford shows at international level on a regular basis that he is the man for the big occasion and plays better for Everton than he often gets credit for.

His reactions to scramble across his line for one particular stop stood out but Pickford was exceptional throughout the game and deserved to keep a clean sheet on a huge afternoon for Everton.

Despite that win, Chris Sutton said on BBC’s Monday Night Club that he still does not ‘trust’ Everton as he reacted to Pickford’s post-match comments.

“Everton are really weird,” said Sutton.

“I heard Jordan Pickford talk after the game about team spirit and togetherness.

“Where’s it been earlier on in the season? You still can’t trust Everton.”

In fairness, what else was Pickford supposed to say after Everton won? You can only talk up the spirit that such a result produces and hope to carry it forward for the rest of the season.

Everton may need more Pickford heroics

If Pickford did not play so well on Sunday, Everton would not have won the game.

He has shown the levels he can reach and Everton may just need Pickford at those heights more than once again between now and the end of the season.

Of course you can’t really ‘trust’ any of the teams in the relegation battle. The reason they are down there is that they have flaws in their games.

Everton now have some momentum and they needed it because Burnley are flying too. Leeds are the side on the back foot now, but it can all change so quickly.

The game in hand Everton have is massive too and another masterclass and clean sheet from Pickford would go a long way to getting a result.
