Everton appear to have pulled off daylight robbery with Romelu Lukaku sale

Everton’s sale of Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United in 2017 is fast becoming one of the club’s best ever transfer decisions.

The striker was cashed in on for an initial fee of £75 million plus £15 million in add-ons, according to BBC Sport.

That was after Lukaku had established himself as one of the most dangerous strikers in the Premier League at the time, having plundered 87 goals in all competitions for the Toffees in his four seasons at the club.

Lukaku did actually have a decent first season at Old Trafford, scoring 27 goals in all competitions.

This term the striker has started slugglishly, and has found the net just four times. As Manchester United’s number nine, fans are disappointed with that return.

And it isn’t just his goalscoring that is coming under fire.

Everton’s Lukaku sale is looking like a steal

With Lukaku in poor form again, it looks like Everton are close to achieving complete justification over their £90 million sale of the striker.

Some Toffees supporters were disappointed with the club’s decision at the time, citing a lack of ambition from the board.

But to see him playing so poorly now must be somewhat satisfying from a business standpoint.

Lukaku appears to playing at a level far below what he even managed at Everton.

His touch is always heavy, his hold up play could be better and he doesn’t appear as agile as he once was.

This was evident during Manchester United’s poor performance against Juventus in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The consensus seems to be that, if he isn’t scoring goals, he isn’t doing much else.

For the moment it looks as though he has actually gotten worse, and some United fans are calling for him to be dropped by Jose Mourinho.

Everton must feel as though they have been vindicated, especially with their own attacking players now starting to gel. Richarlison, especially, looks like he could be a potential superstar.
