PSV Eindhoven are set to have a battle on their hands keeping hold of talented young attacker Mohamed Ihattaren in the summer.
Rumours have been swirling for some time that the teenager could be looking for a move away from the Dutch side.
Those were exacerbated in January when Eindhovens Dagblad reported the 18-year-old had made Mino Raiola his agent.
Yesterday, speaking to Voetbal International and relayed by Voetbal Primeur, the PSV star admitted a desire to one day join a bigger club, stating that the Italian superagent was in charge of his future.
“I leave that to my agent Mino Raiola, he knows how I feel about it. Let me play football and then I will see what will happen to me. This summer, or maybe the year after. And of course, signing (a new contract) is also a very serious option. Although everything goes very fast, I still have enough time to learn.”
All of this should be music to the ears of Everton and, in particular, director of football Marcel Brands.
Firstly, It is well known that Brands has a good working relationship with Raiola. The Italian represented many of the PSV players whilst Brands was technical director at the Philips Stadion. As first reported by Sky Sports in 2018 it was a source of excitement for Everton fans. That relationship was believed to be key in Everton’s eye-catching Moise Kean capture last summer.
Secondly, Brands is an unabashed admirer of Ihattaren. Speaking to Voetbal International last year, Brands admitted he would take the starlet at Everton ‘tomorrow’ if a transfer became possible, although suggested remaining at PSV was currently best for his development.
“To be honest, I would like to have him with Everton tomorrow, he is that good…”
Then there is Everton’s need for a right-winger. As reported by The Times over the weekend, it will be a priority for the Toffees recruitment team this summer.
Ihattaren, although versatile, has played most of this season wide right, scoring nine and assisting nine goals in 31 appearances in all competitions. At just 18-years-old, those are very impressive stats.
With Brands’ ties to his agent, his clear admiration for the player and the need for a right-winger, Everton simply must be in the hunt for the teenage talent this summer.
